Japan runs no official hotel classification, so this page cannot rest on a rating the way our Paris and Amsterdam lists do, and it does not pretend to. These are the hotels in our reviewed Tokyo set that are operated under an international luxury brand or occupy a landmark building, and each entry says which of the two it is. The set is deliberately small and does not cover every luxury hotel in the city.

The Peninsula Tokyo

Faces the Imperial Palace gardens at Yurakucho with Ginza on the other side and Tokyo Station a short walk away. The district around it is offices and gardens, so there is no street life to walk out into.

Occupies the top of a Nishi-Shinjuku tower, where the height is the whole proposition. It is a longer walk to the station and the shops than the address suggests.
