Sukhumvit if you want the Skytrain at the door; the riverside if you came for the temples.
Step one · choose the area
Rattanakosin, the island the city began on, holding the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and the river piers that face Wat Arun. Boats are the fast way in and out of it, because the elevated railway does not come here.

A first visit · Temples and sightseeing
The long eastern spine, followed above the traffic by the Skytrain and below it by the metro, with the malls, restaurants and most of the international hotels strung along the stations from Asok to Thong Lo.

Easy transport · Dining
The business district between Sukhumvit and the river, offices by day and markets and bars after. It is the one place where the Skytrain and the metro cross, and it has a pier of its own.

Transport in every direction · Business trips
North along the Skytrain, a residential run of low streets, coffee places and neighbourhood restaurants. It costs less than Sukhumvit and takes about fifteen minutes longer to get anywhere.
